Are your products certified? No. However, each product meets or exceeds FAA regulations. Are your products waterproof?Water-resistant, only. Most are generally moisture resistant, such as the PSLR/PSRG, and can be further enhanced by applying a lining of silicone or other like compound around the inside edge of the product. Is the ZL-MB50 a Master Switch?Yes/No! The ZL-MB50 can be the Main Bus contactor that a Master Switch controls. Generally, it is extremely difficult to obtain toggle switches which can directly switch moderate or high currents. Because of this a contactor (relay) is controlled remotely by a lower current switch. One of the problems with most other relays is that they use 1 or more Amps of current just to energize their magnetic fields. This will drain your battery fast if you forget to turn off the Master Switch! At Ztron Labs we have optimized this combination. There is no current rating requirement on the actual toggle switch you use with our product as any switch you find will be rated greater than the 2mA used by the ZL-MB50! Can the ZL-MB50 be used as a Starter Solenoid? No. Nor is there any advantage if it could be so used. The ZL-MB50 should only used to switch up to 50 Amps. This is more than enough for most Main Buses in general aviation aircraft. Most starter motors will take more than 50 Amps, some as high as 500 Amps. The contactor solenoid used to switch starter motors only draw current when the starter is engaged, which is a very infrequent event. There is little risk of leaving this relay engaged when one leaves the airplane. !!! Under no circumstances should a ZL-MB50 be wired between the battery and the starter solenoid !!! Can I change the strobe pattern after I have installed a strobe light?Yes, if you have access to the programming button. Otherwise you need to loosen the two mounting bolts. It is highly recommended that you mount the strobes without any silicone sealant, make your selections for patterns, then just before final inspections seal the units to the airframe. What happened to the BP8X" mode?We have suspended sales of the BP8X. Its low sales volume and low profit did not justify its continued existence! Can the ZL-PSWT Nav lights be switched separately from the Strobes?Yes. To switch the strobes off, you can use the Sync wire and switch it to ground. Releasing the line from ground will allow normal synchronized operation. In addition, if you wish to use a previously-wired 4-wire system with our products while retaining this function, please note that there are special methods to do so. See this document for details. Do your strobes suppress switching noise?Yes. Our current production models the ZL-PSWT-12 model has zero switching noise. This is because this design has no switching circuitry. Our previous model employed two methods to suppress noise within the aviation frequencies and above. We found this to be sufficient for most customers, however, when the opportunity came to build a new batch of product we opted for the lowest noise method possible, as we now use. Why are your Landing Lamps sold in pairs? The new ZL-LL15B are only sold as a pair. As with the old wingtip strobes, we opted to eliminate any possibility of RF emmisions. It is not possible to drive two LEDs from 12-15 V without a switching circuit that will generate some RF emissions. However, it is possible to drive four LEDs efficiently from 12-15 V, without switching, hence the pair. The two ZL-LL15B are wired in series, each running with a 6 to 7.5 V supply (internally generated). |
